10 BENEFITS OF ESCAPE ROOM DATES & TIPS FOR SUCCESS

Why Escape Room is Amazing Date Night Idea, Hollywood | Questroom

An escape room date night is a unique idea for first dates and a great way to switch things up if you and your significant other have tried all the coffee shops in town and exhausted your to-watch list. Imagine working with your date to find hidden clues, solve puzzles, and escape from a zombie (or make off with a giant ruby). That’s an experience you two won’t quickly forget!

Escape rooms for couples offer a unique experience that will leave you with lasting memories—what more could you want out of a romantic date? Let’s look at 10 reasons why an escape room is an amazing date idea, plus tips for planning a successful date and considerations to keep in mind.

Benefits of Choosing an Escape Room for a Date

Escape rooms offer a wide range of benefits for couples. The following are 10 of our favorites:

1. You Can Skip the Small Talk

Those first few dates can be awkward. Fumbling over a coffee cup listing off your skills and interests can feel forced and weird. Choosing an escape room for a date gets rid of the need to fill the silence. You and your partner will be breaking the ice before you even realize it!

2. It Builds Your Bond as a Couple

At Quest Room, we require a minimum of two players since most of our puzzles need two people to be solved and all of our rooms CAN be accomplished with two players. This gives you the perfect reason to work together as a couple, build your collaborative bond, and improve your communication skills—something that’s vital for healthy relationships. You two will become closer once you’ve made it out!

3. An Escape Room Date Night Is a Creative Idea

Choosing an escape room for a date is a very creative idea that’s sure to wow your partner. It’s a great option if you’re tired of going to the movies, and also makes a great addition to a cinema date! Since most of our rooms are an hour long, you can easily plan a movie or dinner around it.

4. Great for Double Dates

Double dates can be hard to plan. Escape rooms are a great choice for a double date because everyone gets involved! Each person can take on a different role, and when you’re in an escape room it’s always better to have more minds to collaborate with.

5. You Can Demonstrate Your Wit and Resourcefulness

An escape room date night is the perfect place to demonstrate your value. You’ll be able to impress your partner with your problem-solving skills and quick wit!

6. It’s a Unique Marriage Proposal Option

It may surprise you, but at Quest Room—from Amnesia to DaVinci's Challenge to Warlocked—we've seen many. If you’re a couple that likes to live on the edge, an escape room could be the perfect place to pop the question.

Planning a proposal at Quest Room? We recommend Warlocked, Malediction, Red Giant, and Davinci’s Challenge. Give us a call and we will help you plan it all out. Our managers LOVE organizing these special moments. You can also check out our escape room proposal tips for ideas.

7. You’ll See How Your Partner Acts Under Stress

When you’re dating, it’s important to get to know how the person will react in different situations. Rarely do you get to see your partner under stress when you’re at the movies. Relationships that go the distance will be faced with rough patches, and an escape room could give you insight into how they’ll act in a real stressful situation.

8. Get a Rush of Adrenaline

You don’t have to go skydiving to get your blood pumping. If you’re looking to get a rush without doing something extreme, an escape room date night is the perfect middle ground. No one has to jump out of a plane, but you’ll still get an adrenaline rush from trying to get out.

9. Create a Precious Memory

Dates should be memorable, and that’s exactly what you’ll get at an escape room. How could you forget the time you worked together to escape near death as a couple? You’ll even get a photo to commemorate the occasion that you can cherish for years to come.

10. An Escape Room Date Is Fun!

At the end of the day, dating should be fun. The most memorable dates are those that are full of excitement and adrenaline. You may not remember every time you’ve sat across from each other at a restaurant, but you’ll definitely remember the time you chose an escape room for a date.

How to Plan a Fun Escape Room Date Night

Planning is essential for a fun escape room date night. These steps will help you and your date get the most out of your escape room experience.

1. Choose a Theme You’ll Both Enjoy

Choosing the right theme is essential for a positive escape room date night. Look for an escape room that’s aligned with your shared interests.

Keep in mind that escape room difficulty varies. There are unlimited hints, but if it’s your first time we suggest sticking to an escape room game with a low difficulty rating like Resurrection, Red Giant, or Malediction. Perfumer is one of our more difficult rooms.

2. Give Your Partner a Mystery-Filled Invitation

Set the scene for an exciting date night by giving your significant other a themed invitation with hints about where you’re going. Leaving clues around the room or around your favorite park is a great way to reveal the date destination while setting the mood for your upcoming adventure!

3. Get Dressed Up for the Occasion

Matching themed costumes elevate the escape room experience and help you get into character. Refer to our guide on what to wear to an escape room to help you plan outfits that are comfortable and secure as well as appropriate for the theme.

4. Prepare Themed Food

Preparing themed food extends the adventure beyond the hour or so you’re in the room. Try these themed snack and dinner ideas:

  • Resurrection - raspberry-filled cupcakes, snacks dipped in tomato sauce, snacks with edibles knives stabbed into the top, and bloody bolognese
  • Red Giant - layered melon-on-cracker pyramids, chocolate mummies, date balls, stuffed red bell peppers, strawberries
  • Malediction - pretzel log cabin, pretzel broomsticks, ice cream cone witch hats, chocolate cookie cat faces
  • Perfumer - fragrant foods and drinks covered from sight so that your partner has to smell each one and guess what it is before they can see it and eat it
  • Warlocked - magic wand fruit skewers, cauldron cupcakes, hot stew

5. Take Care of Your Souvenir Photo

Most escape rooms provide a commemorative photo as you won’t be able to use your cell phone to take selfies during the game. You also won’t have time to think about posing for photos because you’ll be so focused on solving the puzzles and clues!

After the game, look at the photo together and reflect on how much fun you’ve had. You can put it in a visible place as a reminder of your teamwork and ability to solve problems together.

6. Celebrate After the Game

Whether you win or lose, schedule a celebration afterward in recognition of your joint effort and ability to surmount challenges during the game. Reflect on the strengths each of you displayed, such as creativity, thinking outside the box, remaining calm under pressure, perseverance, and kindness.

Escape games provide a great opportunity for developing essential character traits. Name them and celebrate your internal as well as external achievements!

Considerations for a Fun Escape Room Date Night

Escape rooms make for an unforgettable date night. However, there are a few things to keep in mind to make your shared escape room experience a success.

1. Get to Know Each Other a Little Bit First

Escape rooms can be fun for a first date if your partner is someone you already know. That said, getting to know someone you’ve never met before while simultaneously trying to escape from a serial killer is challenging, to say the least.

Spend a little bit of time getting to know your date before booking an escape room for the best experience. Even if that happens earlier on the same day, your escape room adventure will be better for it!

2. Read Up on the Room Before You Book

Escape room themes, sequences, and difficulty levels vary wildly, and it’s essential to know what you and your date are getting into before you go in. We provide detailed information about the genre, storyline, difficulty rating, and special considerations (such as the presence of live actors, strobe lighting, fog, physical activity level, and small spaces) for all of our escape rooms on our booking pages to help our guests make an informed choice.

3. Dress for Comfort

Escape rooms often involve climbing, crawling, bending down, and lifting objects, so it’s essential to wear comfortable clothing and closed-toed shoes. “Dressing to impress” for an escape room date night means getting into character rather than wearing the tightest LBD and sparkliest pair of heels (trust us - you’ll have much more fun in comfortable clothes!).

4. Keep the Focus on Teamwork

Escape room dates go best when both partners stay positive, work together to find clues and solve puzzles, and go in with realistic expectations. If you don’t beat the escape room (most groups don’t), don’t blame yourself or your partner or ruminate on what either of you could have done better. Solving an escape room with two players is possible but challenging and even very smart people fail!

Instead of getting upset, celebrate your efforts and perseverance at solving puzzles and reflect on ways you could work better as a team. You can always come back another day and try the room again!

Are You Ready for Your Best Date?

An escape room date night is perfect for any stage in your relationship. At Quest Room, we have several options to choose from to get your adrenaline pumping. You can book online or call us at your nearest location.
